This guest house is in a central location in the pretty town of Ambleside, being just minutes from the town centre with its pretty streets and tourist-friendly shops. It is also a good base from which to explore the wider Lake District, being close enough to Bowness and Hawkshead as well as walking trails up in the hills.
Anybody who has visited the area around Lake Windermere will know that car parking can be an incredibly difficult chore. However, thanks to a combination of free on-site parking and the issuing of free parking permits, you will not have that problem if you stay at this hotel as they will make sure you have a parking space.
Good Wi-Fi connectivity can be a problem in these old buildings, with their odd layouts and thick stone walls, but there are no reported issues at this guest house. Guests say the signal is strong and reliable.
This old Victorian property has some steps leading up to the main entrance. They are quite steep, so if you have any mobility issues you might have trouble getting up them. To the credit of the owners, they make a point of telling potential visitors this might be an issue beforehand.
While breakfast is described as delicious, with several options available including a vegetarian alternative, it served only in a narrow time period between 8.30 am and 9 pm. This means you must be up and ready to eat at this time, otherwise you will go hungry!
The bathrooms are described as being on the small side, so you might find them a tight squeeze. You do get provided with complimentary toiletries, though.
