The Sportsman hotel is a family pub with lodging facilities in the middle of Eaglescliffe in Stockton-on-Tees. The two star budget hotel is ideally located for the mainline railway, the A19, A66 and Teesside Airport. There are three smoke free rooms for letting. Complimentary Wi-Fi, TV, modern furnishings, complimentary tea/coffee and en suite facilities are provided in every room. The Sportsman has a public sports bar with TV, lounge bar and smoking areas. Onsite parking is available. There is a garden and tour ticket assistance available for guests. There is a restaurant and bar here which serves lunch and dinner. The establishment does not serve breakfast. Preston Park and Butterfly World are some close by attractions. Durham is about a half hour drive and Middlesbrough about a ten minute drive. Newcastle International Airport is about an hour's drive.

The Sportsman is a pub that also offers accommodation. The beds are comfortable and the pub does the job of offering a place to doff down for the night said guests. The hotel offers good value for money thought a lot of guests who said the hotel is cheap and cheerful.
Among the guests who gave positive reviews to the hotel, business guests recommended the hotel particularly. The location was convenient and the hotel provided a good base said some guests. The convenience store across from the hotel proved very handy as well.
The staff and service is relaxed and friendly said guests. The hotel provides good basic accommodation and also has good wholesome food said guests.
Several guests remarked that the room and bathroom were not clean. Problems such as spiders in the bathroom, unclean basins and commodes, dirty sheets and rubbish in the bins were reported by some guests.
More than one guest remarked that the rooms were very hot and that the radiators appeared to be hot even during the summer because the controls were either broken or absent.
The room appears to lack basic amenities such as a bedside lamp, chair or table. No bath soap, towels or slippers are provided and hot water is an issue here said some guests. Though friendly, the staff at The Sportsman does not appear very concerned with resolving issues that guests face. Some guests thought that the service was indifferent and that the hotel was OK only for night stops or very short stays.
