The Herdwick Inn is found in the quiet Cumbrian village of Penruddock, with wonderful views towards the northern fells of the Lakes District National Park. This 18th Century inn offers 2-star accommodation four miles from Ullswater, and is situated about halfway between Penrith and Keswick on the A66.
Each of the five rooms are en-suite with bath and/or shower, colour TV, hairdryer and tea and coffee-making facilities.
Wet walkers can make use of the drying room facilities, while The Herdwick Inn also has open fires and oak-beam ceilings, secure cycle storage and ample free car parking.
Guests can make use of the beer garden and patio in good weather, seasonal menus and Sunday carveries are served in the mezzanine restaurant and the bar offering includes real ales.

For good food and reasonable prices, the tasty Cumbrian breakfasts and the hearty bar restaurant fare both ticked the boxes for guests, and the real ales in the sociable bar also went down a treat with fans of a true brew.

It did not seem to be a big issue for many of those who stayed here, but a few guests found the rooms and en-suite bathrooms to be too small for their liking, but manageable for a short stay.

A handful of guests found the decor at The Herdwick Inn to be a bit dated and dusty, but the new owners appear to have taken the initiative and were in the process of doing it up in 2015.
