Breathtaking scenery in the Lake District National Park was on this property's doorstep, offering a stunning backdrop for walking, mountain biking, horse riding and other outdoor pursuits. Guests also liked the tranquillity of the setting and being able to reach the nearest beach on foot. Motorists liked the free parking and appreciated the direct access to the A5093 and proximity of the A595 for trips to area attractions, beauty spots, beaches, golf courses and dining options. Furthermore, there were shops, petrol stations, amenities and a train station conveniently located in nearby Millom.

The comfortable and well-cleaned rooms with powerful showers and cosy beds won praise from reviewers as did the tranquil gardens. Visitors also admired the lovely views of Black Combe and the surrounding countryside from the rooms.

Reviewers frequently said the pleasant, welcoming and helpful hosts had good local knowledge and ideas for days out. Diners loved the yummy cooked breakfasts, saying they were plentiful and served in a pleasant dining room with an original stone wall and wood-burning stove.

Some rooms were reportedly fairly small, especially at full occupancy. There was also occasional criticism of the small size of certain en suite bathrooms.

Several guests who had early starts in the mornings said they wished the timing of breakfast could have been a bit more flexible as it was only served from 8.30am onwards.

The rural location reportedly best suited those with their own transport as it was a little off the beaten track and had limited public transport links. Moreover, some travellers encountered frustrations with poor mobile phone coverage on certain networks in the area.
