Nestled in the picturesque Usk Valley, The Dragon Inn is centrally situated within Crickhowell, and at the doorstep of Brecon Beacons National Park. Featuring recently refurbished rooms, rates include breakfast at this family-run hotel. 15 en-suite rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen TV. Guests can select single, superior double, or twin rooms. Family rooms can accommodate up to six guests, and have plenty of space to spread out, including two separate bedrooms, a sofa, kitchenette, and a 40" flat screen TV. Dating back to the late 1500's, this historic Inn offers secure parking and an electric vehicle charging point. A function room is large enough for 35 seated, or 40 standing guests. Guests only have to venture downstairs for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or afternoon tea. The Dragon Inn is a two-minute walk from the Crickhowell visitor information centre, and within walking distance of shops.
Guests felt right at home amongst friendly staff who were found to be kind and attentive. Any problems were quickly rectified, and guests had the feeling that staff genuinely cared that visitors had a positive experience.
Guests raved about the large breakfast portions, and failed to find a menu item that didn't please. Meals were well presented, and included local specialties like venison, wild game, and fish sourced from the Welsh and Cornish coastlines. A guest favourite was the Dragon Burger and the Sunday lunch, with pork, lamb or beef roasted to perfection.
Old, exposed beams, low ceilings, and log fires were some of the cosy attributes that guests loved about The Dragon Inn. Top this off with extremely comfortable beds, and sparkling clean accommodation, and you have a recipe for a marvellous visit.
Some guests encountered a bit of unwelcome noise. Rooms located over the kitchen were often exposed to the general hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant, and neighbouring beer gardens were sometimes too boisterous during the summer months.
While many guests thought that slanted ceilings in the bathrooms added to the characterful rooms, others weren't so impressed. Those on the taller side sometimes got tired of ducking their heads, and a few even had an unfortunate bump on the head in the middle of the night. The good news, though, is that guests can request a room with high ceilings.
A few guests had to hold their breath when entering the hotel parking lot. A very narrow entryway wasn't ideal for larger vehicles, or for less confident drivers. Alternative parking can easily be arranged, however, much to the relief of some guests.
