The Chequers Inn is a non-smoking hotel which is great for those who don’t imbibe and like their room to smell fresh and not like acrid, stale, second hand smoke.

Both the restaurant and the pub serve fresh, well-prepared dishes. The menus are varied and the chef is happy to accommodate special dietary needs.

If you are tall, be sure to avoid the rooms on the top floor which have slanted, low ceilings. You will not be able to stand up straight in these rooms and may bang your head on the ceiling if you’re not careful.

The guest rooms are a bit on the dated side. Bathroom fixtures in many rooms are falling apart, including commodes that aren’t bolted to the floor properly.

Because The Chequers Inn is housed in an old building, the temperature controls are iffy, making for a cold stay in the winter months and a warm stay in the summer. This can be uncomfortable, especially when you are trying to sleep.
