Can't fault the welcome.

Friendly, cheerful and genuinely so; the welcome you get here puts any subsequent reservations that you may have, very much on a back-burner.

Rooms are fine - and quiet.

Yes, there are some reservations on aspects of the rooms but, at the end of the day, they are quite comfortable (*so are the beds) and for this very reasonable tariff, they serve their purpose very well. You are in the middle of nowhere - (but surprisingly close to the A303) - so you are more or less assured of a good night's sleep.

A nice pub atmosphere.

The pub itself is quite spacious and very welcoming, with friendly locals. The dining menu is fairly limited but, what there is comes out well prepared and is substantial.

Butt ... breakfast is for ‘has-beans'.

Breakfast is of general good quality and generously portioned. It comes, though, smothered in those wretched baked beans!

Butt ... the rooms need attention

They are on the damp side as you enter and need a good airing before visitors arrive. They are very dated but, worse than that, there are some cleanliness issues. There are water problems too, with no hot water and showers not working being top of the problem list. These things are easily sorted ... and then the rooms are really good value.

Butt ... the pub closes early.

It must be a ‘dog eat dog' existence with three pubs in this village setting, all fighting for trade! Sometimes there are losers and it has been known for this one to throw in the towel and close the bar early. Solution? Walk to one of the other two!
