Hotel Ted Charlton (Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom)

The Heroes Hotel could not be in a more appropriate locale to suit a tourist’s needs. Every possible attraction is within a few kilometres from this budget hostel. Shopping centres, theatre, sports and entertainment activities, bars and cafes, are all at a walking distance. For further travelling, the Newcastle railway station is a five minute walk. The popular ‘Bigg Market’ is 50 metres away. Places like the Cathedrals, Theatre Royal, Eldon Square Shopping centre, Metro radio arena and the Gate entertainment complex are all a five minute walk. World Heritage sites like Hadrians Wall and Vindolanda Roman Camp are close by. Fun activities like paintball, clay bird shooting and go-karting are all at locations near to the hostel and can be arranged by them.

Housed in a renovated Victorian building, the hostel has 11 rooms. Spread over three floors, the rooms have twin and triple bunk beds. The bathrooms in all the rooms are en suite with shower, wash and toilet. Facilities like bed linen, satellite television and free Wi-Fi are provided.

The hostel provides full English breakfast and the all time favourite fish ‘n’ chips. Guests can avail of the facility of takeaway food all through the day. For all other meals there are several restaurants, bars and cafes located close to the hostel. Staff is friendly and helpful and go out of their way to attend to guests’ needs.

The bathrooms need more hooks to hang up wet towels. No screen is present in the shower area, so the floor gets pretty wet. More shelves and plug sockets are also required as a single room has several guests staying in it.

The bunk beds have very thin mattresses and are greatly uncomfortable to sleep in. Rooms are very small, no towels are provided and lighting is quite faint.

The stairs in the hostel to the three floors are steep and there is no lift facility.
