The history of the castle really comes alive in the original features and furnishings that have been retained throughout the castle. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated and aren't like standard, impersonal hotel rooms. The décor of the common areas is simply stunning for those who love history and architecture.

You'll truly know you've left your busy life behind when you look out the windows and see all those panoramic views. The loch and gardens shine through every window and the remote location makes for a relaxing stay. Don't be content to watch, though. There are plenty of paths to see it all up close.

Here, you can truly become the man, or lady, of leisure. There are many common areas to stretch out in and you can take your pick of the drawing room, lounge, bar, library, or conservatory. After you've done relaxing, you can retire to the restaurant and eat like royalty from an amazing menu.

If you're looking for those modern amenities, you might want to stay elsewhere. This hotel is all about keeping up with history. Many find the décor to be dated and dreary, especially the bathrooms which don't have the modernized features many guests have come to rely on. It might be a better fit for an older crowd or for those who truly appreciate all that history has to offer, including those types of inconveniences.

There is a later addition to the property and many guests find they have been booked in this building rather than the castle itself. The annex isn't nearly as nice.

Unfortunately, the staff can spoil the illusion of the fantasy of being royalty. Some staff members, especially those who are new and untrained, are disorganized and don't respond quickly to concerns.
