Smart Place Paris is located a few minutes' walk from the Gare du Nord, in the heart of the city. It is an ideally located hostel/hotel well equipped for independent young travellers. The bedroom accommodation ranges from en-suite private doubles and twins to mixed 10 bed dorms; there is a single sex 4 bed female dorm. All rooms are cleaned regularly, and have their own private bathrooms. Irons and hair dryers can be borrowed from reception, and there are secure lockers available. Smart Place Paris aims to provide the best of value, and is able to help in finding tickets for attractions at the best prices. Wi-Fi Internet access is provided free of charge throughout the establishment, TV is also available. The hotel is non-smoking throughout. Smart Place is a good, well run hostel/hotel, with both mixed dorms and one for women only, and private en-suite double or twin rooms. Thus there are choices available for young travellers. It is located close to the Gare du Nord, and the Metro and buses.
The receptionists were found to be both polite and helpful. The reception is open 24 hours, the hostel/hotel has a really good atmosphere, and is a great place for meeting other people.
The accommodation was found to be pretty good for the price, it is very clean and has a good shower the Wi-Fi is also really good.
A guest found that there was no blind on the window in the bathroom so those right outside could see you taking a shower and on the toilet: not ideal! A definite area of improvement would be the provision of a fan on the room, temperatures in Paris can reach 40 degrees Celsius.
In spite of the fact that this is at the top end of the hostel range of prices the rooms can be rather crowded. One visitor noted that it was the most expensive hostel they had stayed in.
The locality has a reputation for being slightly dangerous, and whilst there were no reports of guests experiencing problems specific to the area, this is a consideration that should be taken into account particularly at night by single travellers.
