Reviewers often said they felt as if they were getting away from it all at this peaceful coastal location in an attractive west Cumbrian village. Guests loved being steps from the mile-long sandy beach for pleasant coastal walks. Another popular haunt nearby was the imposing sandstone headland of St Bees Head, where guests enjoyed experiencing rare birds and wonderful panoramas of the Cumbrian fells. Holidaymakers also liked the straightforward access to the western side of the Lake District National Park and proximity of St Bees train station for Cumbrian Coast line services.

Visitors appreciated the way many rooms benefited from superb views across the Irish Sea towards the Isle of Man. Reviewers often commented that the rooms were tidy and spacious and more than adequately clean and comfy for an affordable coastal getaway.

The reportedly plentiful and tasty breakfast was a hit with most diners, who also praised the restaurant and bar meals. Staff were often described as welcoming, friendly and helpful, although some critics claimed there were junior team members who occasionally lacked professionalism.

There were bathrooms that could have done with a revamp and certain rooms had dated decor, tired-looking carpets and aging furniture, some critics claimed. Furthermore, there were reports that some corners of certain rooms could have been more vigorously cleaned.

It annoyed some reviewers that access to the free Wi-Fi network was limited to certain rooms. Some of those who managed to log on were underwhelmed by the speeds on offer at times.

Thin walls were blamed for occasionally enabling light sleepers in some parts of the premises to hear noises from connecting rooms and corridors.
