Originally an elegant 19th century residence, today, Hotel Santa Caterina is a five-star hotel on the stunning Amalfi coast. Santa Caterina is consistently rated as the best hotel on the Amalfi coast and, from the second you arrive, you will see why. The grounds are immaculately kept; with bougainvillea, olive groves and fruit orchards and sloping terraces down to the sea, white-washed walls contrast with the crystal blue sea and the views of the Mediterranean are, to most guests at least, unparalleled.
Frequently labelled the hotels best feature, the beach club is exclusive for guest use. Staff are on hand to supply you with everything you may need; from umbrellas, loungers and towels to snacks and cocktails. Access is easy thanks to two glass elevators to the beach and ladders into the sea.
Santa Caterina is certainly not a budget option and, for most, the price is comparable to the quality, service and beauty of the hotel. Others, however, have found the restaurant and drinks in the bar to be prohibitively expensive.
There is a useful shuttle service from the hotel into Amalfi. You may find, however, that the timings of this service don't match your plans; out of operation for several hours in the middle of the day and finishing late afternoon, some guests opt to find their own way back.
On another price-related note, previous guests have been surprised that, considering the cost of accommodation, guests who choose to visit the spa facilities are charged for the privilege.
