The 3-star San Zulian hotel was built in 1800, and now offers elegantly renovated rooms just two minutes’ walk from St. Mark’s Square and 400 metres from the Rialto Bridge. Chiesa di San Zulian church, one minute away, offers Sunday Mass in English, while Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs are within five minutes’ walk. Each of the 22 rooms is furnished with antique furniture and Venetian artworks, and comes with shower bathroom and a hairdryer, satellite TV, air conditioning, minibar, safe, and free Wi-Fi. San Zulian was found to be wonderfully central for Venice’s main attractions, with San Marco a few minutes away, the Rialto Bridge a little further, restaurants, gondolas and shopping found nearby, and free tours to a Murano glass factory offered by the hotel.
Guests found the rooms to provide good simple value, with comfy, quiet quarters, good Wi-Fi and a few rooms offering fantastic rooftop views.
The reception staff was generally found to be very attentive, friendly and professional, although some guests had contrary experiences and occasionally found the service unprofessional.
A handful of those who stayed at San Zulian were unhappy that they had no views from their rooms, with others who stayed in the annex reporting some morning noise.
Those who dined in found the breakfast room to be a bit small to fit all guests, while the continental breakfast was thought to be good and plentiful by many, with good coffee to boot, but a few thought it to be poor on grounds of it lacking cooked options.
A few guests thought the rooms to be a little outdated — which may come down to personal preference of decor as many had no problems with this — and the bathrooms, while modern, were occasionally thought a little small.
