Rickerby Grange is a 4-star bed & breakfast found in the pretty Lake District village of Portinscale, 1.9 miles from the northern market town of Keswick. The B&B is five minutes’ walk from the shores of Derwentwater and the Derwentwater Marina, is surrounded by hikes and views of fells and peaks like Catbells and Skiddaw, and is within two miles of GoApe and mountain biking in Whinlatter Forest. All but one of the nine bathrooms are en-suite with a bath or shower, and each includes central heating, a colour TV, hospitality tray and a telephone. Guests can take advantage of free parking, secure cycle storage and a drying room. Full English breakfasts including local eggs and Cumberland sausage, vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available and the village also has tearooms. Rickerby Grange’s location in a charming little village close to Keswick was popular with guests, many of whom also appreciated the walking trails leaving from just outside into the picturesque Lake District wilderness.
Guests found the owners to be warm and welcoming, to also be dog friendly and they gave good local tips on places to visit and where to eat in Keswick.
The full English breakfasts were considered to be of great quality, including local delicacies like Cumberland sausage and were cooked to order.
Some of those who stayed at Rickerby Grange found some small issues, which did not impact hugely on the stay, but should be noted. A few guests found the Wi-Fi to be poor, certain rooms and bathrooms were smaller than some would have liked, a handful found the rooms and furniture a little dated, and the closest restaurants are a little way away in Keswick.
