All are self catering and feature equipped kitchen, separate sleeping and lounge/dining areas, cable TV, Wi-Fi, in-room safe and hairdryer. Many also feature private balcony or terrace. The star feature at Quinta Mae Dos Homens is undoubtedly its pool terrace, which has exquisite views over the sea and town. Reception staff are on hand to assist, and there is also a clubhouse with a small library and space to relax and socialise. A basic picnic basket type breakfast, served in guest’s rooms, is available every morning. Packed lunches can also be ordered. The beach and town centre are approximately a mile down the hill, while Madeira Airport is 10 miles to the east.
It was undoubtedly the views over the town, harbour and Atlantic beyond that most impressed guests during their stay. The hotel was said to be in a commanding position and the views it offered simply sublime.
While guests tended to like the quinta in general, it seems that its pool terrace was their favourite feature. For most it was simply a place to relax, enjoy the view and absorb the atmosphere, but the pool itself came in useful for its ability to help cool down guests at the end of a long hot summer's day.
Again and again guests would mention how wonderful the staff at Quinta Mae Dos Homens were. They were described as welcoming and incredibly helpful, with nothing seeming to be too much trouble when it came to attending to their guest's needs.
Several guests mentioned that they paid for the view over the town, by being some distance from it. While one could walk to and from the town, it was said to be a very steep and punishing walk indeed.
