Barão de Forrester is the unique Pousada in the Douro Region, World Heritage. With the signature of the architect Paulo Gomes, the recast of the Pousada has had the effect of straightening the tie with the Douro and with the history of the oldest demarcated and regulated region of the world. The Pousada offers each visitor an experience that refers to a time or space from the “Barão de Forrester”, one of the most emblematic characters of the Douro history and the port wine. Each space drives you to a moment or to a landscape from this region and all of the 21 rooms tell you a different story from a place, a scene, an heritage, of the magic wanderings of Joseph James Forrester in the mystic territory: the Douro. With an outdoor environment that appeals to the quietness and calm with a swimming pool, tennis court and a bar that has port wine as the main reference on the several cocktails available. Wireless Internet access is available. The Restaurant “O Barão” is part of the Pousada, it is a meeting point with the Douro flavours. Characterised by warm decoration, in sober tones, “O Barão” refers to the Douro of schist and vineyards. Pousada’s kitchen chef proposes a range of flavours inspired by the Portuguese and the Douro’s traditional kitchen, enhancing the freshness and quality of the products - meat, regional sausages and vegetables. The wine list is filled with a multitude of liquors that appeal to the Douro in its majority, strengthening the ties with the Douro’s Demarcated Region once more.
