Set in a wonderful position overlooking Montego Bay, Polkerris B&B offers unique British-Jamaican fusion style accommodation in a refined and relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are decorated and furnished to a high standard, and feature unique period pieces, air conditioning and shared or private patios and balconies. Polkerris B&B is made up of two properties, each off which has their own pool terrace, where guests wile away the day in peaceful serenity, ideally with a drink in hand. Breakfast is served daily, and guests can choose between traditional Jamaican of ackee and saltfish, or a full English breakfast. There are a number of restaurants in the area for other meals. The Pelican Grill comes as recommended. Doctors Cave Beach is just 500 yards away and easily reached on foot. Montego Bay’s famous Hip Strip, with its cafes, bars and street life, is just 300 yards from the B&B.
Though Montego Bay seems to have a bit of a bad reputation among guests looking for peace and quiet, no guests who stayed here had anything but good things to say about the view. It was described as lovely, and together with the peaceful surroundings of the B&B tended to put guests into a more “tropical hideaway” frame of mind than they had expected.
The hosts and staff, Clarrisa, Jeremy, Peter and Elaine are described as immensely welcoming, and the perfect hosts - doting on the guests, but in a way that was friendly and helpful, rather than intrusive.
While both Jamaican and English breakfasts were available, many guests seemed to relish the chance to try something new to them, and often opted for the ackee and saltfish that comprise the Jamaican breakfast. They described it as delicious.
The Hip Strip is a bit too busy and commercialised for many travellers tastes, and some guests are a bit put off by Polkerris' proximity to this, for them, infamous area. Also, many guests consider the area unsafe at night.
Not that this seemed to bother many people, even those mentioning it, but the Wi-Fi reception was described as a bit spotty, and even when a connection was made speeds were rather slow.
Several guests were disappointed that lunch and dinner couldn't be taken at the B&B. Many didn't really want to contend with other tourists at the Hip Strip when looking for a place to eat.
