Traditional and Peaceful.
The Seven Stars Inn is a traditional pub/hotel, and guests found it to be both friendly and peaceful as a location in which to stay the night in spite of the guest rooms being located above the bar and restaurant.
The Seven Stars Inn is a coaching Inn that dates back to 1724 and is quietly located in the village of Shincliffe. The village is only a mile and a half from Durham’s city centre, which is easily reached by the bus which passes nearby. There are two single rooms and six doubles, all have their own en-suite shower room facilities, flat screen freeview TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and complimentary Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. The Seven Stars Inn is a character place, and enjoys a peaceful location whilst affording easy access to the city by public transport, thus guests are able to explore Durham without car parking problems. Well prepared English cuisine, with international influences, using fresh local produce is available in both the Restaurant and the Lounge Bar but not on Mondays when guests can eat at our sister pub in the village. Admire the Romanesque architecture of Durham Cathedral.

The welcome on arrival was warm, and guests were shown to their room that was small but perfectly adequate: the double bed was of a good size, and was fitted with lovely bed linen, the rooms were beautifully clean. Parking was safe, and nearby. There are excellent country walks around this Inn, and the city centre of Durham can be reached in 35 minutes.
Guests who ate in the restaurant found the service to be fast and efficient, and agreed that the quality of the cuisine was of the highest order. The full English breakfast was described as delicious, and there is a vegetarian option.
Visitors who came to dine were not at all happy with the service, or rather lack of service, in the restaurant, they know the Seven Stars Inn and felt that it was badly let down by lack of staff training on this occasion.
More than one guest found the toilets to be extremely noisy, this is perhaps a reflection of the fact that it is an old building, and guests have remarked that some of the décor and infrastructure is tired and would benefit from sympathetic updating.
In some locations the Wi-Fi connection is not very good, and there is noise from traffic outside. The restriction on returning to the Inn after midnight was a slight concern to some, but it does ensure that guests are not disturbed by late birds and can be sure of a good night's rest.
