Oak Hostel Zen, otherwise known as Oak Hostel Zen offers comfortable and modern capsule-style accommodation close to two metro lines so guests are connected to much of the city. Both private rooms and dormitories are available, each with air conditioning and heating. Dorms are furnished with bunk beds with curtains as well. Private rooms include their own bathrooms, a desk, a fridge, a TV and a balcony in some. Self-service laundry services are available on site at Oak Hostel Zen as are a luggage store and a common lounge with a computer which guests can use free of charge and free Wi-Fi. There are bicycles, towels, ear plugs and adaptors available to rent at the reception. No meals are served at the hostel however there is a communal kitchen and vending machines for drinks. Ueno Park, Tokyo National Museum and Asakusa Shrine are some places of interest in the area.
The hostel is an easy walk from a number of cultural sites as well as five minutes from Japan Rail stops, making it popular with guests who found the location and the fact that you can rent bicycles from the reception very convenient indeed and made it easy to move around.
The hostel staff have been frequently complemented for their friendliness, patience with non-Japanese speakers and overall professionalism which for many tourists is a comfort and even a welcome change from other hostels.

People travelling with heavy luggage, wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility should note that there are only stairs for Oak Zen’s three storeys so it is far from handicapped accessible.
Although common in Japan, the rooms are mostly quite tight on space and you may struggle to stow away your luggage or hang clothes up, for example. There are however lockers in most dorms and in the lobby as well.
The walls of the guest rooms are quite thin, which sometimes means you can hear the voices of your neighbours in the next rooms or sound from the ensuite bathroom or from the hallways from under the door.
