About North West Castle
Overlooking Stranraer Harbour and Loch Ryan, North West Castle is a 19th Century hotel and former home of Scottish Explorer, John Ross.
Each of the 72 en-suite guest rooms offers tea and coffee making facilities, TV, complimentary bottled water and workspace. Four-poster and family rooms are available, some boasting Loch views.
North West Castle boasts an indoor curling rink and leisure facilities including a heated pool, spa bath, sauna and gym. A games room is available for guest use with snooker, table tennis and pool tables. Free Wi-Fi is available.
A full Scottish breakfast is served daily and the two on-site restaurants offer differing dining experiences. Regency Dining Room provides a formal dining arrangement with three-course and a la carte menus available, while Alpine Restaurant offers a more informal environment.

positive:
Something for everyone.
The leisure facilities at the hotel are vast and there is something for everyone; a games room with toys suitable for toddlers, older children and, with snooker and pool tables, adults to boot. There are comfy guest lounges, a heated pool with sauna, Jacuzzi and a small, yet well-equipped, gym.
positive:
Location, location, location.
With its close proximity to Stranraer Town Centre, ease of access to transport links- with the train station and ferry port nearby, North West Castle is a popular choice for those looking to explore the local area. There is plenty of parking on-site.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Dated inside and out.
For some, the old-fashioned décor goes hand-in-hand with the history of the building. Others, however, suggest that the interior is dated as opposed to charming, and few can find a reason for the slight musty odour.
negative:
Slow going.
Service is excellent but, as both restaurants are popular with guests and locals alike, can be slow during busy periods. Previous guests suggest booking outside peak times.
negative:
Too hot for comfort.
Some previous guests have suggested that the rooms at North West Castle can be too warm to be comfortable; particularly during Summer. There is no air conditioning in the hotel so you'll have to make do with opening a window or two.
