Well situated in the very centre of Shah Alam, the New Wave Shah Alam hotel offers basic budget accommodation with air conditioning 5 minutes from Shah Alam Lake. The rooms are very basic, but have everything you need for a good night’s sleep. Each features en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV and work desk. Reception is open 24 hours and can assist with tours, transfers and local information. Wi-Fi is free of charge and accessible throughout, while there is paid off-street parking on-site. While there is no on-site restaurant, there is one right next door and reception staff will be happy to offer great local dining recommendations. Kuala Lumpur International Airport is approximately 30 miles to the south, while the city itself is just 15.5 miles to the east. The fascinating Batu Caves, with its exquisite temple, are about 25 miles from the hotel.
A surprising number of guests mentioned that they found the Wi-Fi system to work remarkably well. Perhaps because of the budget nature of the hotel they were anticipating it to be no better than an average hotel's Wi-Fi, which is pretty bad. They were happy to report that their expectations were dashed and that it was both fast and reliable.
While guests certainly did find fault with the hotel, many went on to add that the room-rate they received was exceptionally low. Those who merely needed a place to stay, and spent little time at the hotel reasoned that they got a good deal on a hotel near to where they needed to be and were happy to overlook its faults.
Several guests mentioned that they really appreciated the proximity to Melawati Stadium, so that after the game or event they only had a short cab ride back to their hotel.
A couple of guests remarked that they saw cockroaches scurrying across the floor at times. They were not impressed, to say the least, and felt the hotel should do more to ensure all areas are kept spotlessly clean so as to prevent this happening.
A number of guests mention being put off by the smell of smoke throughout the hotel. Some had the smell in their rooms, even coming through the air conditioning, and others in the public areas. But wherever it was, they certainly did not like it.
Unfortunately it seems that there is no soundproofing installed between the rooms. Guests mentioned that they could hear the sound from the adjacent rooms almost as if it was being generated in their own.
