Founded in XIIth century, the Monastery of São Cristóvão de Lafões was a Cistercian Abbey until the eviction of the monks in 1834. Reformed by the monks in the 17th century, the monastery itself and associated outbuildings have been carefully restored in 1984 and 2003 (tourism) to a high standard of modern comfort whilst retaining the original style of the building, making archiecturally decorative features of many of the building's initial equipment, such as granite feed troughs of the former stables which are brought to life as glass-topped bed side tables or bathrooms features. The atmosphere is one of tranquility and seclusion in the midst of nature. Around the monastery a wood invites for a walk with a sense of refuge until the river Varoso, with a natural pool with a natural waterfall where you can have great fun swimming and diving in it. Available are one suite with kitchenette, five standard bedrooms and a house (Casa dos Conversos) with two bedrooms, 2 baths (one ensuite), living and dinning room and a kitchen. A small bar on the reception, living and breakfast rooms, an outdoor swimming pool on the garden, and the cloister of the Monastery are at guest disposition.
