Hotel The Monarch Resort (Pacific Grove, USA)

A lovely, quiet setting just five minutes' stroll to the lighthouse and butterfly sanctuary, and less than a ten-minute drive to downtown Pacific Grove, Old Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey Bay Aquarium and sparkling Monterey Bay. This is a basic, decent hotel experience. Property is aging but most reported it as nicely maintained. Clean and comfortable with adequate amenities. Interior spaces are pleasantly furnished with artwork, sculptures and plants. Plenty of parking including covered. The continental breakfast is fairly standard with cereals, bagels, juice, coffee/tea, muffins, and hard-boiled eggs; served with trays so you can eat it in your room if you wish.

Very nice, efficient staff work this hotel, and they couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. They do what they can with what they've got.

Spacious rooms are clean and nicely-equipped for the most part. Plenty of hot water for showering. Nice, big, cozy beds. Everyone loves the fireplaces in the rooms - make sure yours has one. Some have mentioned the air conditioning, refrigerators and microwaves weren't working well, but for a simple shower, bed and sleeping, you'll probably be fine.

Key cards may not work well and you may need repeated assistance entering your room. Mini-fridges, refrigerators, and AC may not be optimally functioning. Spider webs adorn the corners. Beds are cheap, and some felt they were overly squeaky. Lightbulbs are missing, drapes don't fully close/open, and some thermostats aren't adjustable.

Don't book unless you're absolutely positive you want to stay here - they preauthorize your card for the full amount, and it's difficult, if not impossible, getting it refunded if you change your mind.

Some felt this locale is too expensive for the provisions, and better deals are available elsewhere.
