Positive Reviews

positive:

Lovely and convenient location

While it might seem like the hotel is in a small village, with nothing much about, guests loved the serene setting. Also, for many guests London was their ultimate destination. London Marylebone Station was just 45 minutes away from the very nearby station, so they were well within daily commuting distance.

positive:

Peaceful and quiet

Several guests mentioned that, being set in its own gardens, in a fairly small town, it was very quiet. There were no reports of guests being disturbed by external noise.

positive:

Staff were polite and helpful

While there were some contrary views, most guests described the staff as very welcoming on arrival, and polite an helpful during the source of their stay.

Negative Reviews

negative:

Rooms are exceptionally small

This was perhaps the most common complaint. While guests differed about whether it was a serious issue, almost all did say that the rooms were exceptionally small, with pretty much only enough room for the bed and a small path around it.

negative:

Desperately in need of a refurbishment

This was another very common complaint. Guests were typically wowed by the grounds and the exterior of the Abbey, but felt strongly that both the rooms and public areas of the hotel were many years past their due date for a full refurbishment.

negative:

Some questions regarding cleanliness

Though not a universal complaint, there were an uncomfortable number of guests who complained about their rooms simply not meeting minimum cleanliness standards when they checked in. “Grubby” was a word used a couple of times.
