The hotel is surrounded by 25 acres of grounds which include very picturesque manicured gardens. There are lots of colourful plants and flowers including a water feature and plenty of seating areas. The spectacular surrounding scenery has made this hotel a very popular wedding reception venue.
There are plenty of leisure facilities on offer at the hotel including a fully- equipped gym, an indoor -pool and steam rooms. Guests enjoyed using the pool which they found to be of adequate size for swimming lengths and the gym was also complimented by many for its extensive range of modern equipment.
Guests enjoyed spending time in the sitting rooms which they described as very comfortable and full of character. In colder weather the open fires add to the cosy and relaxed atmosphere and many chose to spend their free afternoons or early evenings in the hotel's lounge.
Complaints were made about various plumbing issues most notably the low pressure of the showers and having to wait for a long time in order for the hot water to come through.
The interior of the rooms left guests unimpressed with peeling wallpaper and stains on the upholstery. The furniture was described as old and in need of replacement whilst the windows were said to be rattling and letting in cold air. The bathrooms were described as quite basic and many guests objected to the broken tiles and the mouldy grouting.
Guests complained about not being able to get hold of staff at breakfast and not being told where to sit. Many objected to the overall level of service at breakfast as the waiting staff didn’t seem to be very helpful or attentive.
