Reception is open limited hours and can assist with laundry and local information. There are beautiful gardens to stroll through, and Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the property. Mill Forge's gardens were one of guest's favourite features of the hotel. It is situated a bit outside Gretna Green itself, and guests appreciated the rural ambiance. The outlook was said to be very peaceful, and they enjoyed taking an odd walk in the gardens.
Whether it was the excellent cooked breakfast, or the wide variety of dishes available at dinner, guest really seemed to like the food served at the restaurant. They certainly didn't feel like they had to journey in to Gretna Green or elsewhere in order to eat very well.
The staff at Mill Forge were said to be a particularly cheerful lot, seemingly always smiling. But more than that, they were said to be friendly towards guests and always ready to assist were they could.
While not brought up often, it was mentioned that the lighting on the grounds was somewhat less than perfect. Some even felt they needed a torch to get from their car to their room.
A couple of guests mentioned that they could hear the goings on of the adjacent rooms, and speculated that no soundproofing materials had been used in the dividing walls.
A few guests pointed out that their room was a bit too small for their liking. While none seemed to consider it a major issue, they said they would have had a much more comfortable stay had the room, and especially the bathroom, been a bit bigger.
