Situated in the very heart of South Shields Mill Dam Guest House offers simple accommodation to travellers looking to stretch their budget, but not lower their standards. The rooms are simply furnished, have cheerful décor, and feature en-suite bathrooms, tea/coffee stations, minibars, alarm clocks, and hairdryers. Mill Dam is proudly pet-friendly, and can certainly accommodate well behaved dogs. There is ample on-site parking, one bay per room, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Neither breakfast, nor the other two meals, is available on-site, but there are good dining options nearby. The hosts will be only too happy to offer you their personal recommendations. The guest house is just steps away from many South Shields attractions and amenities, including the Customs House and South Shields Theatre. Newcastle is 11 miles to the west.

Guests really seemed to appreciate the very comprehensive hot drinks basket provided. There seemed to be something for everyone, and guests didn't feel they needed to nip down to Asda to pick up their favourite tea or coffee.
Shockingly, complaints regarding the Wi-Fi were very hard to find. On the contrary, several guests complimented the system, saying it was both reliable and fast enough for their purposes.
Guests seemed to like that the guest house was pretty close to the town centre. It meant that they didn't need to get into their car and drive to every little place they wanted to go. Most of the amenities they needed were just a short walk away.
Curiously, this came up a few times. Either there is a problem with the hot water in general, or the tank is on a timer, but whatever the reason guests mention that there was sometimes no hot water available when they really needed it.
Though not a universal complaint, several guests mentioned that their bathroom was particularly small. It was said to be awkward to use, especially the shower. Guests maintained that even regular size people would have trouble showering comfortably in such a small space.
While Mill Dam does highlight this fact on their marketing materials, some guests were disappointed they couldn't at least take their breakfast at the guest house.
