Set in its own substantial ground, Mercure Goa Devaaya Retreat Ayurvedic Spa Resort offers accommodation in tranquil surroundings with extensive Yoga and Ayurvedic treatments available. The rooms have a classical feel to them, with antique wood furniture, but still contain all the modern conveniences. Each features fully modernised en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV, telephone and tea making facilities. The central feature of Mercure Goa Devaaya Retreat is of course its Ayurvedic spa and the treatments it offers. They are very extensive, and qualified practitioners are available to create personalised plans for each guest. Some of the facilities include an outdoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, tennis court and meditation room. A diet plan will be part of the treatment package. Each person’s will be unique, but all will be vegetarian and avoid coffee and other stimulants. The resort is on Divar Island, and guests typically stay at the resort for the duration of their treatment. Goa’s airport is approximately 23 miles away.
Pretty much all guests were happy to report that the environment created by the resort was exactly what they were expecting at a retreat centre. It was quiet, with not much internal or external noise, and the gardens were also said to be quite attractive and calming.
Again and again guests mentioned how clean their rooms were. Being on a retreat the concept of cleanliness seemed even more important than usual, and guests were glad that they could cont on the cleaning staff to have that covered.
Guests seemed to have nothing but praise for the Ayurvedic practitioners and the treatments they offered. On the whole, they were quite happy with the results of the treatments over the course of their stay.
Perhaps this wasn't surprising, but a few guests commented that the food could be a bit bland. Devaaya is a health resort, and one of its principles is the avoidance of stimulants. In their interpretation this seems to include salt and spices, leaving some guests rather unimpressed.
Since the very purpose of a retreat is to block out the outside world, Devaaya is in quite a remote spot on a river island near Goa. Some mentioned that once they were there thy felt a bit stuck. If they wanted to visit the beach one day it would be pretty much a full day trip.
This was quite a specific complaint related to the food that came up again and again. It seems that Devaaya's serves no fruit at breakfast time, and guests can't quite understand why.
