Well situated, in the very heart of the Old Town, Hotel Hotel Mar de Cortez is a charming colonial-style property offering simple accommodation. The rooms are simply furnished and decorated, with cooling tile floors and some lovely antique pieces. They all have air conditioning and free Wi-Fi, and can have minibars and in-room safes added on request. Some have terraces with lovely garden views. Motorists will find safe onsite parking at the back of the hotel. The star attraction, and the place guests spend most of their time, is undoubtedly the lovely pool deck, which has all the sun beads and other amenities you’d expect. El Cortez Restaurant and Bar serves breakfast and lunch in an elegant and traditional Mexican setting. Hotel Hotel Mar de Cortez was one of the first hotels in what was once a small fishing village, and is very well situated. The marina is just 200 yards away, while the beaches are less than a mile.
Guests absolutely adored the location. The hotel was one of the first to be established in Cabo San Lucas, when it was still a fishing village. As a result, it has a fantastic position close to the marina and pretty close to the beaches as well. Going by the reviews, guests wouldn’t swap the location for the world.
Guests had nothing but good things to say about the onsite El Cortez Restaurant. Breakfast was said to be especially good, but those eating lunch there were very happy as well. Guests especially liked that it offered a full, and very satisfying, American Breakfast.
The hotel is one of the oldest in Cabo San Lucas, and guests really felt that it had aged exceptionally well, with the mature garden surrounding the pool area said to be especially beautiful and full of character.
While guests conceded that one doesn’t travel to Mexico to watch TV, they would nonetheless have liked to be able to spend the odd relaxing evening watching a movie. The rooms do not have TV sets in them so this was not possible.
Aside from the missing TV, a number of guests also felt that the rooms didn’t rely contain much by way of furniture or amenities in general. It made them reluctant to spend much time actually in their room.
Guests were not happy with the sun beds in general. For a start, there were simply not enough of them, meaning guests often arrived, towel in hand and ready to catch some rays, only to find all the beds occupied. But even those securing a sun bed reported that many were in a very poor state of repair.
