About Lord Hill

The Lord Hill Hotel is a three-star family-run establishment set in a 19th century, listed building and a modern annex, situated about one mile from the charming town centre of medieval Shrewsbury. All bedrooms, available in various styles and sizes, have en suite bathroom, television and designer toiletries. Individually-styled traditional rooms in the main building have free Wi-Fi. Some are larger suites with four-poster beds, whilst the adjacent lodge has 24 standard rooms with smaller televisions. The hotel was refurbished in Summer 2013. There is ample free on-site parking and guests can stay on room-only, bed and breakfast or half-board basis. The Lord Hill Hotel restaurant boasts a brasserie menu and also serves Sunday lunches and sandwiches. Breakfast is served daily in the conservatory. In an easy to find location, the hotel provides a good base for exploring the county town of beautiful Shropshire with its independent shops and Tudor buildings.

Positive Reviews

positive:

Friendly and professional staff.

Shrewsbury has frequently performed strongly in lists of Britain’s happiest and politest towns. According to many reviewers, hotel staff members generally do their bit to help uphold the town’s reputation on this front through their attentive, friendly and professional service.

positive:

Spacious and clean rooms.

Reviewers overwhelmingly described the bedrooms as spacious in both parts of the hotel. Many also praised the cleanliness of the bedrooms and communal areas.

positive:

Food is good.

Breakfast typically gets the thumbs up from most guests. Many said they liked having a full breakfast cooked to order. If you prefer, there is a continental buffet as well as alternative breakfast favourites like kippers. Those who dined at the hotel in the evenings generally rated the food highly.

Negative Reviews

negative:

Noise can be an issue.

For some guests noise was occasionally an issue when trying to sleep. Those reviewing rooms in the lodge found some suffered from traffic noise because of a road which passes behind the hotel. Those reviewing bedrooms in the main building sometimes described being disturbed by noise from other guests when the hotel is hosting evening functions.

negative:

Dated decor not to everyone’s taste.

A few reviews remarked on the bedroom décor and furnishings as being a bit outdated or tired-looking. Some guests also reported finding mould in their en suite bathrooms. Despite its recent refurbishment, some visitors felt there is still some work for the hotel to do in this regard. Nevertheless, this did not detract from most reviewers’ experiences with many reporting an otherwise comfortable stay.

negative:

Lodge rooms in separate building.

Crossing the car park in the dark to reach your room may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Some reviewers who stayed in rooms at the lodge remarked about this as a negative aspect of their stay. Of course, the issue doesn’t arise for guests staying in the main building.
