Situated in a privileged position close to Geneva’s main railway station, the Hotel Lido Hotel offers simple accommodation just steps from both the lake and Geneva’s famed shopping district.
The 29 simply furnished rooms offer accommodation from singles to quads, and feature private bathrooms, flat screen TV’s and telephones. The windows are well soundproofed.
The hotel is a small budget property, and there are not many public facilities. It prides itself on its green credentials, and has installed solar panels to help reduce electricity and gas consumption. Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and throughout the hotel.
A simple continental breakfast buffet is available every morning, while reception staff will be happy to offer great local dining recommendations when it comes to other meals.
The shore of Lake Geneva with its ferry terminals and views onto the iconic Jet d’Eau is just 700 yards from the Hotel Lido Hotel.
This is undoubtedly guest's favourite feature of the Lido. They found the location convenient on many levels. Conveniently close to the railway station, so no taxis were required on arrival, and also close to shopping and attractions.
Several guests expressed their astonishment that a hotel in such a central location could be so peaceful and quiet at night. They generally credited its position in a side street, and very solid soundproof windows.
Good value…for Geneva
A number of guests commented that they found the hotel to be very good value, usually qualifying their statement by adding “for Geneva”, due to Switzerland's, and especially Geneva's, reputation as expensive destinations.
No in-room tea or coffee making facilities
Cultural misunderstandings struck again. Hotels in many countries do not have a history of putting tea and coffee making facilities in their hotel rooms. Perhaps Switzerland is one of them. But regardless of whether this is so, the Lido Hotel does not include these in its rooms, and has guests left high, dry and a bit thirsty when they discover they cannot make themselves a hot beverage.
Problems with the breakfast
Guests seemed to have two problems with the breakfast. Firstly, they said, it was not very good, consisting of a small variety of pretty basic staples. Secondly, the time it was all packed up was quite early. Late risers will miss it entirely, and have to find a café.
No real hotel facilities
Though guests realised they had booked into a budget hotel, some were still a little disappointed by how few public facilities there were. It was pretty much just the reception and breakfast room, with the rest of the space being taken up by rooms.
