About Le Corti di Begio

Le Corti di Begio consists in a main structure dating from the 18th century (La Canonica or The Rectory) and three other buildings of smaller size to form a kind of small village with its independent gardens and courts, which still preserve the memory of voices and works of the past, respecting the original architecture of the eighteenth century. Original vaulted ceilings have been preserved as far as the irregular walls covered of dyed lime, the fireplaces, the cisterns for rainwater. One of the characteristic underground cellars with barrel vault has been rectified and converted into a space for reading or a meeting place for a game of pool. The house does not end with the walls, but continues in the pool and in the garden, with its colours and perfumes, with its old prickly pear and dry stone walls, a discreet sign of ancient and harmonious interaction between man and nature. It was a job that involved emotionally, almost a “philological conservation” of the original spaces and the material with which they were built: local carparo and Soleto stone, earthenware.
