Hotel Las Cuevas Beach Lodge (Trinidad, Cuba)

Guests simply couldn’t believe how large the rooms were. While all guests loved the luxury of abundant space, those with families were especially pleased. They felt that their whole family had enough space.

The hotel is not really in Trindad, but above the town. As a result it has a commanding view not only of the Caribbean, but also of the town and surroundings.

While most guests did not appreciate what they considered a poor standard of maintenance, one or two guests were at least a little charmed by the 1950’s style buildings that were in what to them was a picturesque state of disrepair.

Going through the reviews, one loses track of how many guests were simply shocked by the state of cleanliness of their rooms. It wasn’t simply that they were a little untidy, but rather that they were filthy. Various small animals like lizards and frogs seem to come and go freely and leave droppings that cleaning staff do not seem to notice.

It seems a lot of guests booked at the hotel hoping to experience some of the music that the town is well known for. They were disappointed to discover that it was quite a walk to town, and coming back involved a very steep climb.

Unfortunately, it seems that hotel staff in Cuba are stereotyped as being rude, perhaps as a result of the embargoes and lack of international hospitality standards. While it’s unclear whether the stereotype is fair, it seems that guests at this hotel feel it certainly applies to the staff at this hotel. They were described as quite rude and entirely lacking in customer service skills.
