Welcoming guests since 1883 and fully restored in 2011, Lakeside Inn is collection of historic buildings in Mount Dora, Florida. A particular highlight is its stunning location overlooking Lake Dora. Featuring a pleasing antebellum style, the rooms and suites are split between four buildings. Each offers a ceiling fan, a bathroom with eco-friendly toiletries and cable television. A mini fridge can be requested for an extra fee. Lakeside Inn offers a wide selection of indoor and outdoor event spaces including The Grand Lobby and The Garden Terrace. Guests can also enjoy spending time in the outdoor pool. Food is served all day on the Veranda with views of the lake. Alternatively, The Beauclaire Dining Room offers a more formal setting and Tremain's Tavern serves cocktails and light bites with live entertainment. Lake Dora is the perfect spot for a leisurely walk or a boating trip and, a mile away, classic car enthusiasts will enjoy visiting Mount Dora Museum of Speed.
The hotel is of course a classic. In a state where the attractions are so often almost brand new, guests clearly appreciated the charm and sophistication of a hotel where both the buildings and the hotel were well over 100 years old.
Although guests did say that the buildings needed a little bit of work, perhaps as a consequence of being a very old wood building, the grounds were described as simply immaculate. Guests seemed to like both the landscaping and the fact that everything was kept in excellent condition.
This was one of the most mentioned factors in positive reviews. Guests simply considered the view over the lake from the property to be sublime.
Quite a number of guests mentioned that they had trouble with room assignments. They mention booking a room of a certain type, only to be told on arrival that they were to be put on another room. Sometimes third party booking engines were said to be at fault, but guests didn’t always accept this excuse, thinking perhaps that their booked room had been reassigned for operational reasons.
While there were indications that the hotel was slowly undergoing a multi-year renovation, in the meantime guests mentioned that there were noticeable maintenance defects in some of the buildings, especially when it came to the exterior.
While not mentioned very often, a few guests did report being disturbed at night by inconsiderate guests making a huge racket. It seems that the hotel may not be set up to deal well with these sort of disturbances.
