Hotel La Rosa dei venti is a B&B in Venice’s Castello district, on the scenic road which starts ten minutes’ walk away in St. Mark’s Square and follows the waterfront to the Biennale Gardens. Its windows and terraces look out over Venice, San Giorgio Island and the Lido of Venice, the Naval History Museum is a minutes’ walk and the Venetian Arsenal is 300 metres away. Each of the three junior suites are found on the second storey, and come with air conditioning, en-suite bathroom and hairdryer, LCD TV, safe, minibar and free Wi-Fi. The host is very happy to share his city knowledge and guests can make use of reserved sun loungers and umbrellas at the Lido beach. Hotel La Rosa dei venti serves rich buffet-style breakfasts and the neighbourhood boasts plenty of restaurants, inns and coffee shops Venice Santa Lucia Station is 30-40 minutes away by water taxi.
La Rosa dei venti is close enough to the crowd-pleaser that is St Mark’s Square, but far enough to escape most of the masses, and those who stayed found plenty of restaurants in the neighbourhood, some alluring little back alleys to explore and there are waterbus stops near by to access more of the central tourist attractions and islands.
Guests found their host to be wonderful to deal with, appreciated his great advice on what to do in the city and the islands, and the pleasant breakfast with Italian cold buffet items and hot bread pleased most with its simple quality.
With lovely views from some of the rooms, and breakfast vistas for all to enjoy, those who stayed enjoyed looking out over the lagoon towards St Mark’s Square, while the lovely Venetian decor and comfortable beds were also mentioned approvingly.
A small number of guests mentioned having a smaller room during their stay, while others mentioned the bathrooms were also small and the showers not fantastic. On the other hand, many were impressed with the room sizes, so this may come down to a particular suite or simply personal preference.
As La Rosa dei venti is found on the second floor — the third floor to non-Europeans — those with lots of luggage found the lack of lift a little difficult.
Keep in mind that the proprietor is not at the B&B 24/7 and you may have to pick up keys left out for you, but guests have not really minded this at all.
