Situated just a few hundred yards from Bordeaux’s central Place du Parlement, La Maison Bord'Eaux is a boutique hotel offering exquisite designer accommodation and excellent high tech features.
The 14 rooms are each individually decorated and furnished, some with a light and airy feeling and others dark and mysterious. Some have private bathrooms, while others share a bathroom on the same level.
Reception staff are on hand to offer personalised attention that can only be given at boutique hotels like this. They are especially knowledgeable when it comes to tours, particularly those to the nearby St. Emillion area vineyards.
A delicious continental breakfast, served in either the charming dining room or the lovely grounds, is available every morning.
The centre of Bordeaux is within walking distance. The national Opera of Bordeaux is the 16h century location of the city’s best opera and other live events and is just 1.2 miles from La Maison Bord'Eaux.
This was typically the first thing guests brought up in their reviews. They felt that the staff were truly exceptional, and offered not only the warm welcome and friendliness that one might expect, but also had excellent local knowledge that they were only too happy to share.
Pretty decent location
Though not right in the centre of Bordeaux, guests nonetheless loved the location, saying the centre could be easily reached by public transport or a short walk. Many also commented that there were some great restaurants very close to the hotel that definitely lived up to the regions reputation for excellent food and wine.
Lovely Old World charm
The overwhelming majority of guests loved the décor and general atmosphere it generated. They described the public areas of the hotel as having a certain “Old World” charm that instantly put them in a relaxed and positive frame of mind.
Steep stairs and no lift
A number of guests mentioned that the hotel has no lift and stairs that are quite steep. Those with mobility issues did experience some issues, so others in a similar position should carefully consider which room to book and on which floor.
Parking can be tight
A number of guests mentioned that, while the property did have off-street parking available, it was critical to book this together with one’s room. There were said to be only a limited number of bays available, with alternative street parking nearby often difficult to find.
Decor looking a little faded
A number of guests felt that the fixtures and fittings in the rooms were a bit past their use-by date. They were starting to look a bit faded and worn and would soon need to be replaced before they progressed to looking shabby.
