JJ Residence is three-star rated in the Loh Dalam Bat area. It is only a matter of yards from Tonsai Beach and a three minute walk from the nearest shopping centre.
Rooms have a distinctive Thai theme and feature en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, minibar, flat screen TV with cable channels, tea/coffee facilities and a private balcony.
There is a delightfully cosy pool terrace with sun beds. There is also a convenient hotel shuttle from nearby Tonsai Pier for those arriving at JJ Residence with heavy luggage. Reception staff members can assist with local information.
The area around Tonsai Pier offers a variety of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets; for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Tonsai and Loh Dalum beaches -both very nearby. Via the popular tour boats which leave from the pier daily, it is also possible to explore the remainder of the island.
The proximity of the beaches, and to a lesser extent the pier, was what guests most liked about JJ Residence. They found that it took no time at all to stroll to the beach, and when they were done could easily stroll back and quickly hop into a refreshing shower.
In a very quite location
The built up areas of Phi Phi are incredibly dense, so a few guests expressed their amazement that the hotel could be so quiet. They seemed to experience no noise from outside to speak of.
Air conditioning included
Of course Thailand is in the tropics, and it can get very hot and humid. Guests were very happy to find that air conditioning was installed and included in the room rate. They were relived to be able to retreat to their cool room during the heat of the day.
Area popular with tattooed backpackers
This issue came up a surprising number of times. The island is quite popular with backpackers, and a few guests reported that many of their tattooed members were not exactly their cup of tea. In any event, some said it was possible to get some sort of peace as long as you were prepared to walk to the edge of the beaches.
Staff can be a bit unfriendly
While guests do mention friendly and helpful staff as well, there were a great many reports of rude and disinterested staff as well. It seems that there are several staff members who do not have the correct attitude to be in the hospitality profession.
Very poor Wi-Fi
It was hard to find a good word spoken about the Wi-Fi. It was described as incredibly unreliable, simply cutting off every now and then, and also too slow when it actually was connected.
