The Hotel Jesmond Hotel is a small property conveniently situated right by one of Newcastle’s major shopping centres, and not too far from its amazing beaches. Rooms are fairly basic, and have shared bathrooms. Each features air conditioning, mini-fridge, kettle, microwave and flat screen TV. There is a pub with pool tables, and sky sports on the big screen, for entertainment. In fine weather you can sit out on the stylishly modern garden terrace. The on-site House of Peking Restaurant prides itself on its Yum Cha, and seats 180 diners seven days a week for lunch and dinner. There are other dining options at the shopping centre across the road, including staple international fast food brands. Newcastle’s town centre, and its famous beaches, are both 10 minutes away by car. For the wine lovers, it’s just a 45 minute drive to get to the Hunter Valley wine region.
There is a big Chinese restaurant attached to the hotel, and the food there gets top marks in the guests' book. For the most part, guests also like the pub downstairs - at least as long as they are in the pub, and not trying to sleep.
While not the best shopping centre they'd ever seen, guests did mention that it was very convenient to have a fairly large one so close to their hotel.
While none of the guests stated that this was the Ritz, they did say that they thought they received very good value. For them they paid a budget price for basic budget accommodation, and this is exactly what they got.
Of course to many the benefit of having a pub right downstairs is offset by the fact that it generates noise until fairly late. So on nights they were not in the pub, but trying to sleep, it was somewhat less welcome.
Not often mentioned, but there seems to be limited on-site parking. Together with the fact that there is a restaurant and pub on-site too, this can sometimes make finding a parking spot a bit hard.
There were a couple of complaints about the Wi-Fi. Seems like it is only available downstairs, and that it is not the most reliable. Guests who have an urgent need for connectivity may have to consider roaming or a local sim card
