Situated just on the edge of central Krakow, and with an interior inspired by the Art-Deco movement, the Deco Hostel offers guests stylish budget accommodation in Poland’s most visited city. Deco offers both dorm rooms and private accommodation. The private rooms are richly decorated and features en-suite bathrooms. The dorm rooms are also well furnished, and offer beds in a communal sleeping area with shared bathrooms. The public areas are quite stylish for a hostel and include a guest lounge, computer stations and free Wi-Fi throughout. Unusually for a hostel, all three meals are available at its funky restaurant, which serves hearty Polish and international favourites. The Old Town can be reached just 0.7 miles from Deco, while the city’s main attraction, Wawel Castle, is about 1.7 miles away. Krakow’s John Paul II Airport is seven miles to the west.
Hostels are often judged on their lounges, and guests seemed to really like the lounge at Deco's. It was described as cosy and full of atmosphere with all the books, games and little nooks and crannies that make for a great guest lounge.
While there were few reports of guests enjoying the lunch and dinner, those who had breakfast at the hostel tended to enjoy it. They said it was a very reasonable price and while basic, was served in sufficient quantities to set them up for the day.
Guests who mentioned value for money at all invariably reported that they had received excellent value for the modest room rate they had paid.
Several guests mentioned that the hostel didn't seem to have a proper heating system that worked well. Of course it gets very cold in central Europe in winter, and they found that they were uncomfortably cold when staying there.
While perhaps it was not unexpected, the dorm rooms were described as being very loud, leading to guests sleep being disturbed on occasion. Several guests specifically mentioned that the bunk beds creak an inordinate amount at even the slightest movement of the sleeper.
Guests were generally not satisfied with the level of sound insulation between the rooms, saying they were so thin that they had almost no impact, and sound travelled from room to room without let or hindrance.
