This intimate hotel, with quaint courtyards and a wooden exterior, was found to be more like a large house than a hotel, according to guests. 43 rooms spread out over three floors also meant that noise was kept to a minimum, and that the impersonal attitude of some bigger hotels was shed for a more friendly approach.

Guests could not say enough good things about the location of the Holiday Inn Express Monterey-Cannery Row. Some rooms had ocean views of the not too distant sea, which was within easy walking distance. Take the bike trail right by the hotel to get to the wharf, complete with adorable seals and sea otters.

Many guests commented that they were happy to find air-conditioning when other hotels had omitted that amenity. In the moderate climate of Monterey, air-conditioning might not be at the top of a must-have list, but it can be essential for sleeping on the occasional hot day, and guests were glad to have it.

Many visitors to this hotel found that there was no getting away from stairs, even if they took the elevator. A trek up or down a set of stairs after disembarking from the elevator was a bit of a hassle for those with heavy luggage or small children.

Guests quickly discovered that getting any work done involving the Internet was probably not going to happen. Wi-Fi that kept dropping the signal strength was a hair pulling experience for many.

While some guests were pleased with the breakfast spread at this hotel, many were less than satisfied with a mediocre morning meal that was heavy on processed goods. A small seating area that was sometimes a bit messy was enough to convince guests to try something else.
