Probably the most mentioned positive aspect of the Genesis is that it sits atop a small shopping centre. There are many guests who stay for a week or longer when on business, and find the convenience of being able to pop down and buy some supplies a great boon.
Again and again guest mention how friendly and helpful the staff are. From the welcome they received at reception, to the cleanliness of their rooms, guests have almost only good things to say about the service they received.
It was difficult to find any guests unhappy with the size of the rooms. On the contrary, many were pleasantly surprised and thought that, considering their room rate, they received very good value as far as floor space was concerned.
A couple of guests point out that the impression of the hotel you get as you drive into the underground parking is less than stellar. It is through the delivery entrance of the shopping centre and is a bit chaotic and unattractive.
While there is a small shopping centre attached to the hotel, most other facilities will require a car ride to get to. Most visitors to Johannesburg do rent cars, but those who do not will have to factor in a few taxi rides to get out and about.
Guests mention that stating that Genesis is close to the airport, as its website does, is a bit misleading. While it may be closer than some other hotels, it certainly isn't an airport hotel. OR Tambo Airport is at least a 30 minute drive away.
