Very lovely central courtyard
The hotel has a historic, and very charming, central courtyard which was by far the spot guests most liked in the hotel. Some of the rooms were rather small, so this area was a great spot to sit and relax.
Housed in an exquisitely restored colonial property, Hotel Florida Hotel offers guests the chance to be transported back to another era, but taking along all the modern conveniences they are accustomed to. The rooms are furnished with new colonial-era replicas, and feature en-suite bathrooms, minibars, satellite TV’s, in-room safes and telephones. The suites are a bit larger and also have a private balcony. The lovely historic courtyard is undoubtedly the prime feature of the hotel, and is the perfect place to relax with a drink or snack. Reception can assist with tours, transfers, basic business services and laundry. La Floridina and Plaza de Armas restaurants serve both Cuban and International fare, reputedly including some of Hemingway’s favourites. Set in the heart of Old Havana, the main attraction is simply walking the surrounding streets and taking in the atmosphere. Revolution Square, with its iconic mural of Che Guevara, is about 3.5 miles away.

The Old Town seemed to be top of most guests list of things to see in Havana. So they obviously really appreciated being able to stay right in the centre of it all. Guests mention that they could walk pretty much anywhere in the Old Town they cared to visit.
Several guests mentioned that the hotel often puts on salsa events, and that they could gain access at a very reasonable rate. They typically felt comfortable enough just going to watch, but lessons were also available.
This was perhaps the most common, and most serious, complaint. Guests point out that the hotel is on a busy street, rather than in the pedestrianised zone like some other properties in the Old Town. Together with the fact that Cuba has some exceptionally old and loud vehicles, it resulted in a very noisy environment.
This was an expression that was often brought up. Guests would list the numerous shortcomings of the hotel, especially the rooms, but go on to say that the issues they had were pretty much universal in hotels in Cuba, and if they wanted to visit the country at all they would simply have to accept them.
It was near impossible to find a good word written about the breakfast. It is described as meagre and lacking in variety, but worst of all, overseen by surly staff who clearly would have loved to be anywhere else but in the restaurant.
