Courteous staff and a pool compliment the Econo Lodge North’s convenient location. Unfussy guest rooms with simple décor and exterior entrances feature mini-fridges and microwaves as well as flat-screen TVs and coffee-makers. Some quarters provide sofas and/or additional beds. Guests can take a dip in the seasonal outdoor pool, catch some rays on the surrounding terrace and enjoy some al-fresco food in the picnic area. Wi-Fi and parking (including large vehicles) are both offered free of charge. A complimentary breakfast buffet is served each morning and free coffee is provided throughout the day. A handful of restaurants and fast food outlets lie within an easy walk. Econo Lodge North is nine miles from City Lake and just over 16 miles from the famed Tar River Reservoir.
How nice it is, particularly at the end of a long day of traveling, to come across a check-in team which actually seems to take pride in the work it does and cares about the standard of welcome it provides.
In marked contrast to many other budget hotel chains these days, the Econo Lodge North provides (free) Wi-Fi which is strong, reliable and easy to access. Happy days!
While the outdoor pool here isn’t overly big, it is more than adequate for splashing around in and is surrounded by a nice terrace which itself is flanked by a lovely lawn and matures trees. A very nice spot to unwind, particularly on those muggy summer NC evenings.
Slamming doors, thin partition walls and poor floor/ceiling insulation often conspire to make sleep a little hard to come by in some rooms. Be sure to pack some ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper.
It has to be said that, even by average budget hotel standards (which aren’t the best), the breakfasts offered here are pretty disappointing. Your best bet really is to head over to the nearby Waffle House and tuck into one of their all-day breakfast offerings instead.
It is an unfortunate fact that most of the accommodations within this hotel are in need of remodeling in some way or another. Broken appliances, dirty carpets and dysfunctional furnishings are far too evident.
