While perhaps not the first choice for thrill-seekers, this hotel is perfect for couples searching for secluded serenity. Here, you can be awoken by the sound of gently crashing waves, before breakfasting on your balcony, then taking to the infinity pool to enjoy a day of isolated bliss.

Following a long period of construction, guests report that rooms and common areas are much-improved. Recently renovated living quarters are more comfortable, and suffer less from invading insects, while the bar, restaurant and pool areas have undergone some much-needed work and are now in tip top condition.

Many are disappointed by this hotel's less-than-perfect position. Situated at the northernmost part of the island, there are no accessible beaches, and a dearth of activities means those looking for entertainment are forced to take taxis to nearby villages, which can be costly. Scooter hire comes highly recommended.

While geckos and ants are much to be expected in this part of the world, other intruders, including cockroaches, rats and snakes are more of an unwelcome surprise. Worn netting around beds does little to prevent mosquitos and other flying biters from feasting on fed-up guests.

Many reviewers agree this property needs improving before it represents value for money. The list of grievances includes an unreliable shuttle service, lack of activities/beach, arrogant management, apathetic service staff and unimaginative culinary offerings, while its steep, hillside setting means navigating it on foot can be exhausting.
