It's great that Duncan House welcomes pets because so many people like to travel with their favourite four-legged friends. Your dog will love it too because there are so many great walks to be had close by.

Most of the guest rooms at this non-smoking B&B offers spectacular views of the River Tweed and Floors Castle but some rooms on the ground floor have none. If a view such as this is important to you, be sure to request a second floor room with a view when making your reservation.

The guest rooms here are clean and well-appointed. Comfortable beds with soft sheets, lots of fluffy towels and four poster beds (available in several rooms) ensure an idyllic night's sleep.

The owners of Duncan House live close by, but do not reside on property. Because of this, there is not always someone there to greet you or let you in, for that matter. There is a key safe and they do provide you with directions on how to retrieve your keys, which is fine. But if you are a woman travelling alone, this might be a bit unsettling.

A few of the guest rooms are small which can be problematic if you are travelling with more than one person, have a lot of luggage or need extra room to manoeuvre.

It's important that you enjoy the company of strangers first thing in the morning, as breakfast is served at a communal table.
