The brick and stone building with wooden planks and bays has a tile roof and is supposed to have been built in the late 16th or early 17th century. The Çukurhan functioned as a typical Ottoman city caravanserai. The Han, also placed in the “Watch List of 100 Most Endangered Sites of the World” announced by World Monuments Fund (WMF). Throughout the two-and-a-half-year restoration process enormous care and attention was paid to the preservation of the original state of the building. Each 19 rooms at the Divan Çukurhan has its own personality and is a unique design statement about the interaction of historic structures and modern convenience, cross-cultural pollination and the way natural light interacts with authentic and all-natural building materials to shape space. The Divan Çengelhan Brasserie is the centrepiece of the Çengelhan Rahmi M. Koç Museum’s gallery on display in a 16th century caravanserai, you will discover an equally provocative fusion of traditional Turkish and Ottoman cuisine with international fare.
