Situated within walking distance of Princes Street and the city centre, Claremont Guesthouse offers guests sophisticated accommodation in a 18th century Georgian townhouse. All rooms have been painstakingly refurbished, and are very well appointed. Each features en-suite bathroom, flat screen TV, tea/coffee station and minibar. Migalar is a small establishment and there are not any public facilities. There is, however, a kitchen guests are welcome to use, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout. The hosts are also a wealth of knowledge, and are more than willing to share with their guests. Breakfast is a self serve affair, and features a wide range of Scottish and other favourites. For other meals, the hosts will be happy to offer personal dining recommendations. Princes Street, surely one of the lovelies in Britain, is less that a mile away, while Edinburgh Castle, with its spectacular views over the city, is 1.3 miles from Mingalar.
The hosts, and their staff, were described as very friendly and welcoming, instantly putting the guests at ease. One of the hosts was said to be especially helpful in giving guests all the inside tips on Edinburgh to help them with their plans.
While the guest house isn't right on Princes Street, this did not seem to bother the guests in the slightest. They describe the location as only a bit away from the centre. It was a simple matter to walk to Princes Street, perhaps 15 minutes away. Guests felt they got a reasonably quiet location, but could very easily access the attractions.
Guests really seemed to appreciate the breakfast offered at Mingalar. It was described as a fairly casual affair, with guests dishing up there own food, and the host a bit in the background.
Like many converted older properties, the rooms can differ greatly in size, so even those sold in the same class can vary tremendously in size. This seems to be the case at Minglar, with a few guests saying that they had substantially smaller rooms than others, and were understandably a little miffed.
Guests mention that the on-site parking is very tight indeed, resulting in awkward manoeuvres required to enter and exit without bumping in to anything. It did seem to create some frayed nerves, so if you don't need the car, it would perhaps be best to leave it elsewhere.
The guest house makes no bones about its policy of letting guests get on with their holiday with a minimum of fuss. As such, the house was often unstaffed. Some found this s bit inconvenient at times.
