About Castle in Old Town

Welcome to the only privately owned Castle in Georgia. Located in the Center of the Medival Town, once a fortress before the Mongol invasions, it was from the 16th century the residence of the Persian Shah Administrator for Eastern Georgia. It also hosted a small nunnery for some time. During the Communist period, it was transformed into communal apartments for up to 110 individuals. It has returned to its formal glory, and a limited number of its rooms are made available for some happy few, every year. Please note, to reach the Castle, the Outdoor Pool and the Garden of the Castle you have to climb stairs. The area was built during the Medieval Ages (10-18 centuries) and located on the rock. Unfortunately, we are not disability friendly due to the nature of the building.
