Housed in a building dating from 1870, Cambridge House offers bed and breakfast accommodation close to the centre of Geeveston, part of the Huon Trail tourist route, just 50-minutes drive south of Hobart. There are a choice of room sizes and layout but all include free Wi-Fi, a TV, fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities, along with a heater, fan and ironing facilities. All rooms have their own bathroom, with all but one of these being en-suite. Cambridge House has a guest lounge, veranda seating area, and pretty garden with a stream which is home to a family of platypus. There is free off-street parking. A cooked breakfast, made with local produce, is available for guests. There are a few places to eat in the centre of Geevestone. The Hartz Mountains National Park, Tahune Airwalk, and Hastings Cave with its thermal spring are half an hour’s drive from the property.
Guests are full of praise for the delicious cooked breakfast provided at the property describing it as wonderful, divine and fantastic. Freshly made with great produce and homemade preserves it is simply a ‘top breakfast'.
You will be made to feel very welcome by the staff and well looked after during your stay. Guests say that they are very friendly and helpful and that they are very knowledgeable about the local area so give them great tourist advice.
The bed and breakfast is in a characterful and charming house surrounded by beautiful gardens. Guests enjoy the history of the house and walking through the garden to the creek to try and spot the resident platypus. Those who do say it is such a highlight.
Guests say that the location of the property is great. However, some do note there are no local places open to eat within walking distance and so you will have to drive. If you are looking for a busy location, with plenty to do on a night only a stroll away, this may not be the area for you.
As a historic building converted into bed and breakfast accommodation, bathrooms have had to be added where there would previously have been none. As a result, the bathrooms are quite compact. This was noted as a negative by guests although does not appear to have been a real issue.
Though not a massive negative, taller guests might bang their heads in the attic rooms as the ceiling pitch is quite low. Just remember to duck!
