Housed in a charmingly restored gothic convent, the Cá San Giorgio is a boutique B&B situated right on the Grand Canal. Just 10 minutes’ walk from Santa Lucia, it’s ideal for guests arriving by train. The rooms are small, but feature lovely wooden beams and thoroughly modern bathrooms. There is air conditioning for those sweltering days, and satellite TV in the unlikely event that Venice doesn’t compel you to spend every moment exploring. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the B&B. Breakfast is served on-site, but for other meals the neighbourhood bacari and ristorante beckon. The staff will be more than happy to offer their personal recommendations. Being on the Grand Canal, it’s easy to get a vaporetto from Cá San Giorgio to St Mark’s Square. Or for those who like to stroll through the romantic streets, the Rialto Bridge is just 10 minutes’ walk away.
While this is a fairly common claim made by Venetian B&B's, many guests confirm that they did indeed feel that the immediate neighbourhood was about as “local” as you can get in Venice. They loved the fact that they could walk around the streets, and go to the wine bars and restaurants, and not feel that they were completely inundated with other tourists.
